Junior Bender, an L.A. burglar and unknown detective for criminals, is reminded that rock ‘n’ roll will never die (no matter how fervently he wishes it would) when Hollywood’s most dangerous geriatric gangster, Irwin Dressler, keeps Junior on the payroll. Investigative Services to solve a rather inharmonious problem.
Four of Dressler’s old gangster colleagues put together a national tour behind the once-popular rock bands they own a piece of: three nights of concerts by guys (and a few girls) who were big shots in the 1960s and 1970s, and who are now hoping for another breath of glory with this nostalgia exhibition. The Rock of Ages tour turned out to be anything but a love fest: many bandmates feuded for 40 years, and – perhaps unsurprisingly – drugs and bad behavior created health, wellbeing and legal problems for the musicians and managers. In addition, there were two near-fatal accidents that could have been attempted murders.
But they are not what Irwin Dressler is worried about. The fact is that someone-one of his colleagues-is using the tour as a cover to steal Dressler’s money. And this simply cannot be allowed to happen.
Now the tour has begun in Los Angeles, and Junior has one weekend to find out who’s to blame – a weekend that begins with his tires slashed, threatening notes left on his car, and a theater backdrop that falls on the drummer during a truly terrifying first set of the first concert. To make matters worse, Junior is burdened with his teenage daughter Rina for the weekend, who has recently become very, very interested in how her father makes a living. Can Junior recover Dresler’s money, prevent a murder, talk his daughter out of a life of crime, and somehow survive all this bad music?
